What are "surplus industrial assets"?
Surplus industrial assets are simply assets in an industrial setting that are no longer needed.
Surplus industrial assets include everything from equipment and inventory to complete industrial facilities. Surplus assets can be used or unused. They can be brand new to many years old.
These unneeded assets become surplus for any number of reasons. Some of the common reasons include canceled projects, completed projects, overbuying, upgrading, changes in the marketplace, facility closings, business closings, mergers and acquisitions.
The surplus industrial assets market in North America is highly diverse and enormous; well into the billions of dollars in liquidation value at any given time.
But this market contains inefficiencies - sellers often do not know who the buyers are and vice-versa. Many surplus assets which could be used immediately by someone else, sit idle, often for years, sometimes even decades.
Worse yet, many companies pay large sums of money to dispose of surplus assets that could be immediately used by someone else.
I, and other surplus asset professionals, bring liquidity to the market by utilizing our specialized knowledge, skills and industry contacts developed over many years. We make "surplus deals" happen.
My professional history & experience
I started my career in 1989 in the surplus industrial equipment market. In my early years I learned all the "real world" and practical aspects of the business on a national and international level.
Practical aspects I learned included surplus asset sourcing, marketing, sales and logistics. I got to know who the buyers, sellers and brokers were and how successful deals were done.
Start of my subspecialty
In the mid 1990's while sourcing surplus industrial equipment I discovered that many organizations had unused industrial materials and were paying large sums to dispose of them.
I thought other organizations could put these materials to good use. So I developed a network of industrial material professionals who specialize in nearly every industrial material in the world in order to promptly place the materials for reuse.
This unique network has proven very successful. You can read more about it by clicking on the link "Industrial material reuse" in the second column.
Professional contacts
My extensive contact list includes plant managers, environmental managers, sales managers, purchasing agents, engineers, consultants, brokers, logistics specialists, directors, presidents and owners of companies of all sizes in nearly every industry.
